Formula:

Each 100 g contains:

Sildenafil citrate              3 g

Excipients q.s.ad.           100 g

 

Indications:

Sildenafil is a selective vasodilator that works by inhibiting the enzyme phosphodiesterase V. For the treatment of pulmonary hypertension. As an adjunctive therapy in the pulmonary hemorrhage induced by exercise in horses. In neonates foals and foals with fetal / neonatal cardiopulmonary transition delay.

 

Target species:

Equines.

 

Withdrawal period:

The product is indicated for equine not intended for human consumption.

 

Route of administration:

Oral Route, with help of a dosing syringe.

 

Dosage:

It is recommended 0.833 mg of Sildenafil citrate per kg of body weight, one hour before exercise. The dose repetition will depend on the judgment of the professional according to the patient’s progress. In cases of persistent pulmonary hypertension of the newborn foal, 20 mg every 4 – g hours is recommended as pulmonary vasodilator.

 

Precautions:

Do not administer to animals with pulmonary veno – occlusive disease. Do not use in animals with hipotension, dehydrated or in shock. Not administer in cases of occlusion of the left ventricle outflow or dysfunction of the autonomic nervous system. Not to be used with drugs that produce hipotension such as nitrates, alpha-adrenergic blockers, (phentolamine, phenoxybenzamine,phenothiazines). Cimetidine, erythromycin, clarithromycin, and ketoconazole may reduce the Sildenafil metabolism. Phenobarbital and rifampin may decrease its concentration.
