Fast-acting antihistamine

Formula:

Each 100 mL contains:

Chlorpheniramine maleate 1.5 g

Excipients q.s.ad… 100 mL

Indications:

Astemic is a fast-acting antihistamine, H1 receptor antagonist. It is indicated to block or counteract the effects of an excessive liberation of histamine in the body, as a response to allergic and/or anaphylactic reactions; allergies, swellings, eczemas, photosensitisation, acute laminitis, tympanism and ruminal atony, post-delivery mammary oedema and infectious processes in general. It is also recommended for insect or snake bites; reactions to vaccination (better results are obtained in this case if product is administered prior to vaccination); blood transfusions; to alleviate itches and skin allergies, etc. 

Target species:

Ruminants, swine and equines.

Route of administration:

Subcutaneous, intramuscular or intravenous injection.

Dosage:

*1 ml per 100 kg weight, twice a day until the remission of symptoms or until the professional in charge so indicate (0.4 to 0.5 mg/Kg live weight/day).

Precautions

It may cause: depression of the CNS (Central Nervous System), (lethargy, drowsiness); collateral effects in the gastro-intestinal system (diarrhoea, vomit, anorexia); anti cholinergic action (dryness of the mouth, urinary retention).

Its use is contraindicated in patients hypersensitive to this kind of antihistamine or to this drug in particular.

It should be used cautiously in patients suffering from glaucoma, prostate hypertrophy, hyperthyroidism, cardiovascular diseases or hypertension and diabetes.

Special care should be taken when administered together with other CNS depressors.
