Clemic Oral Gel

Bronchodilator, spasmolytic and tocolytic

for equines

 

Formula:

Clenbuterol HCl…….. 4 mg (40 mcg)

Excipients q.s.ad………………. 100 g

 

Indications:

Clemic Oral Gel is a bronchodilator, spasmolytic, tocolytic. It relaxes the smooth muscle. Sympathetic mimetic, agonist of beta 2 type cellular receptor. It is also indicated for the treatment of: respiratory and cardio-respiratory diseases (acute and chronic ones with bronchial spasm), obstructive chronic pulmonary disease. It acts as adjuvant in treatment of bronchitis, pneumonias, allergic reactions, etc.

 

Target species:

Equine athlete.

 

Route of administration:

Oral route. Administer 30 minutes before feeding.

 

Dosage:

*0.8 mcg to 3.2 mcg/kg bodyweight.

Increase the dose gradually (according to the case or need and to veterinarian’s indication) to get the appropriate dose within the limits and periods indicated:

Initial dose: 0.8 mcg/Kg (equivalent to 2 g /100 kg b.w.) every 12 hrs. for 3 days; 1.6 mcg/Kg (equivalent to 4 g/100 kg b.w.) every 12 hrs. for 3 days; 2.4 mcg/Kg (equivalent to 6 g/100 kg b.w.) every 12 hrs. for 3 days; 3.2 mcg/Kg (equivalent to 8 g /100 kg b.w.) every 12 hrs. In case the disease does not respond well to these maximum dosages, treatment must be suspended.

When effective dose is gotten, it is advisable to apply treatment for 30 days without interrupting it, or according to the veterinarian’s discretion. If signs of disease reappear, all the process must be repeated from beginning. In case of overdose signs appear such as tachycardia, muscular tremors and/or perspiration, lower the dose. Acute episodes: 2 g/100 kg of weight every 12 hrs. for 7 to 10 days. Chronic conditions: 1 to 1.5 g /100 kg every 12 hrs. Bronchodilator effect: 0.8 mcg/kg of weight twice a day for 10 days. Pulmonary obstructive chronical disease: 0.8 mcg to 3.2 mcg/kg of weight, the veterinarian will gradually increase the dose until securing the desired effect. Tocolytic effect: 0.3 to 0.8 mcg/kg of weight in one dose (equivalent to 1.5 g to 2 g per 200 kg of weight), to inhibit the myometrial contractions and to facilitate the expansion of the genital canal in those cases required by the obstetric procedure, the dose it is adjustable according to veterinarian’s discretion.

 

Precautions

Do not administer to females near parturition date or suspend treatment some days before it; as Clenbuterol antagonize the effects of prostaglandin F2 alpha and oxytocin, avoiding uterine contraction. Do not to administer to animal with or suspected cardiac pathology since can trigger tachycardia.
